Description

Multidetector Computed Tomography (MDCT) scan is a diagnostic imaging procedure that makes use of X-ray tube and multiple rows of detectors that rotate around the patient to provide diagnostic images through body volume, with isotropic multiplanar imaging.

It provides high-resolution images of all body parts, including bones, muscles, fat, organs, and blood vessels. While the image quality is maintained, it still decreases the level of radiation exposure of the patient significantly. Patient compliance is improved and scanning time is reduced as well.

Our 128 slice ingenuity model offers increased spatial resolution, acquisition of intracranial and extracranial angiogram, metal artefact reduction software (O-MAR) for cases of metallic implants, lung nodule assessment algorithm, low dose (up to 80% less) step and shoot cardiac screening to rule out coronary artery disease, pulmonary trauma, paediatric imaging aside from other routine uses

What is CT SCAN?

CT scan stands for Computed Tomography and it uses X-rays to make detailed pictures of structures inside the body, such as Brain, Neck, Chest and Abdomen etc.

How do I Prepare for the CT SCAN?

We request that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time, to complete paperwork and change clothes if necessary.

You may eat normally for plain CT scan studies and take your medication as directed by your physician, including pain medication.

For CT SCAN CONTRAST studies 3 hours of fasting is required. Please take normal diet  3 hours prior to the contrast study. You can drink plain water at any time, no restrictions for drinking water.

For CONTRAST scans, patient need lab test results of SERUM CREATININE prior to the procedure. It’s a basic renal parameter.

For Abdominal scans you have to drink medicated water over a period of one hour. Depending upon the findings patient may required contrast enema also.

Avoid wearing anything metal such as jewelry etc.

What Should I Expect When I Arrive for the CT Scan?

You will be greeted by one of our friendly front office staffs who will help you with the paper work. They will begin by reviewing the series of questions regarding your medical history.

You will be prepared for CT scan by instructing to remove all metal items from your belongings and sometimes it is necessary to change into hospital dress. If required IV cannula will be placed.

You will be taken to the CT scan room. The CT scan machine is sufficiently large, and the body part being imaged will be in the center of the machine. You will lie down on CT scan table which slides through the scanner.

The technologist will leave the room, but you will be able to communicate at all times.

The technologist will view you at all times through a large window; you will never be left alone.

Generally scan will be completed in 5 – 15 minutes. Sometimes delayed scan may be required as decided by the Radiologist, which may take another 30 – 60 minutes extra.

During the contrast injection you may feel little warm, discomfort and metallic taste, it is common, don’t afraid or panic it is usually for few seconds during the injection.

Try your best to lie as still as possible, since any movement will affect the scan quality. Any motion may mean you will have to repeat the process.

After the scan technologist will help you off the table and you may go home and resume your daily activities.
